Final Thoughts Beautiful Kingdom

So Beautiful Kingdom has become a full game. I started this project thinking I would just have a simple RPG with a few dragons to fight and a light story line. Now it's a full RPG. The game has many side quests, three main quests, a tech tree, alternate endings, many items to gather, and unique enemies to fight.

The world lore has developed from kill four dragons to a complex story. You save a damsel in distress, treasure hunt with an archivist, travel to another world, start a civil war, save a people from a crumbling kingdom, and all the while collect spices that help you win battles against a terrible curse that plagues the land.

I only used the resources that came with RPG maker MZ to make the game. It's truly amazing what is possible with what the engine gives you.

Beautiful Kingdom is my first game and RPG's as a genre can be simple and can be complex. I really tried not to go very story heavy with the game, but the story is often why we play games. There was always this pull between game play and adding more story that needs to mesh together to create a game flow. As I tried to create smaller scenes, I found that I was needing to explain what is happening and the characters were being bogged down by text blocks. There needs to be balance, and I found that dungeon crawling and resource collecting was the most entertaining side of the game.

So give Beautiful Kingdom a try, and let me know how you liked it with a comment or a rating. Thanks for playing.
